Tracks: Seventh Heaven or Cloud Nine at Lebanon Valley Speedway
5 March 1999
WEST LEBANON, NY - A few years ago auto racing promoter Howard Commander of Lebanon Valley Speedway had a vision. He envisioned a beautiful two-story building suspended above the front stretch bleachers. This building would provide luxury suites as well as theater style seating for up to 200 people. The roof of this building would also be accessible and would provide a birds eye view of all the great racing action at the speedway. This vision would become a reality and Lebanon Valley will be enjoying a very successful 4th season if it's popular V.I.P. Tower in 1999.
It's now late winter 1999 and Howard Commander has had another vision. When building the new V.I.P. tower, the existing tower, which for so many years the sound of Uncle Art Stuarts calling "2 to GO, 2 to GO" could be heard, was taken down and has sit idle. Howard's new vision is to have that piece of Lebanon Valley history resurrected. It would be re-conditioned and would rise as the Seventh Heaven Tower behind the yellow bleachers or as the Cloud Nine Tower behind the orange bleachers. The resurrected tower would serve as additional luxury suites for the growing number of people who have expressed an interest in becoming a part of this unique experience at the Valley. There would also be seating available to the race fan as we have in the new tower.
As our Great Lebanon Valley fans can attest to, Howard and Lebanon Valley are continually trying to improve the speedway facility. The new tower, new pit entrance, new pit restrooms and new improved lighting are just a few of the major additions to Lebanon Valley over the past few years. These are the things that make Lebanon Valley Speedway the greatest race facility in the northeast if not the country.
This weeks update is on the driver of modified #24 John Hewitt. John is excited about the 1999 season at Lebanon Valley. The finishing touches are being put on the new Troyer 4-link car John will be campaigning this season. John's racecars are always some of the nicest looking and fastest machines on the track. Last years TEO car will serve as a backup if needed. Long time sponsors Rifenburg Construction, Gendrons' GMC truck Center, John Ray & Sons Fuel Oil and Smith Commercial Tire Service return in support of the Hewitt racing effort. John will be concentrating on competing at Lebanon Valley this season and looks forward to a great 99 season.
