BARBERDODGE: Hundertmark Preparing for Full 99 Season

25 February 1999

ROCKLEDGE, FL -- Former professional watercraft racer Terri Hundertmark approaches her second year of competitive auto racing in 1999. The Rockledge, Florida resident spent eight years in "Jet Ski" racing making the switch from water to asphalt in May of 1998 driving in the open wheel, open cockpit Skip Barber Formula Dodge Eastern Series. Hundertmark finished as the highest ranking female driver, overall 38th out of 171 drivers, in the season long standings.

Hundertmark is returning to Skip Barber Eastern Division competition in 1999 to pursue her first career victory her highest finishing position to date is sixth at both the New Hampshire International Raceway road course and Lime Rock Park, CT.

Opening her season the weekend of February 19-21 at Sebrings "Old Course", the tall blonde raced to tenth in the first race of the weekend. In her second race Hundertmark grided the car tenth and brought it home in seventh position. Her next Skip Barber race will be held at the Homestead Motorsports Complex in Homestead, Florida on March 26-28.

Hundertmark will split her year between formula and GT cars competing not only in Skip Barber but also in the inaugural season of the Womens Global GT Series. The Womens Global GT will run six events, all in support of the American Le Mans Series, beginning at Road Atlanta on April 18. The worlds most talented women race drivers will compete in 16 identically prepared Panoz GT cars for the Womens Global GT championship. A grueling tryout session which included on track performance, an interview, image awareness and physical and mental readiness evaluations earned the experienced racer her shot at the next level of competition.

The 1999 season holds great promise for the enthusiastic competitor and she is looking forward to a successful new year. "This year will be packed full of action. I am doing everything possible to prepare myself including attending the Finish Line Racing School to learn oval track skills. I will also be racing the famous Michelin One Lap of America." The Michelin One Lap of America challenges drivers with seven different tracks in as many days. In preparation for the 99 season Hundertmark has already spent 20 days on the track since the first of the year.

She began the new season joining a team of five other women in a grueling 24 hour event at Moroso Motorsports Park in early January. The team competed in one of the quicker classes of the multi-division event, the Spec Racer Ford class. Though her original entry was taken out of the event by car-to-car contact in the 19th hour, Hundertmark showed her talent and determination by finishing the event in an ill-handling team car that suffered from poor brakes and a faulty gearbox.

The new season also brings the opportunity for Hundertmark to spread the message of Racing For Kids*. As the sole female spokesperson of the charity, she looks forward to further enlightening the public about the work that Racing For Kids* does with sick and needy children. She looks at Racing For Kids* as a chance to give something back. "I have been very fortunate in my life and have been able to do some incredible things from the help of my friends and sponsorsand I want to do the same for the children." Since its inception in 1989, Racing For Kids* has raised over $1 million for sick and needy children.
