NASCAR BGN: Foul Weather Stops Team Yellow at The Rock
24 February 1999
"The weather was the only thing that could have stopped us this weekend. This 19 car was awesome. I just hate that all the folks at Yellow and Pameco didnt get to see what we had for them. It wont rain in Las Vegas. Im running for the Winston Million out there and win in the Saturday Busch race will be a great way to get warmed up for Sunday!"- Mike Skinner
Rockingham, N.C.-- A new team with new colors, a perfect race car and a determined, talented driver. Sounds like a perfect formula for a successful weekend at the races. After two rounds of practice it appeared as though the ingredients were blending quite nicely. Then the rains came.
After the second and final practice round Team Yellow and Mike Skinner were sitting 10th on the speed charts prepared to make their qualifying run and pull the wrapper off the 1999 racing season and make their presence felt. "I cant remember when we have had a race car this good," stated team co-owner David Ridling. "We absolutely did not turn a single nut or bolt on the car the whole day. All we did was put new tires on the car and Mike reported back that the car was perfect, get it ready to qualify and well put this thing on the pole." As the team prepared the car for qualifying a winter storm that had been moving across North Carolina made its way to Rockingham. Once the rains started they never let up and NASCAR official announced at 4:15 that qualifying had been cancelled and per the NASCAR rule book the starting line-up would be set by the final 1998 points and entry post mark. Being a new team, points were out of the question and the teams entry was not selected by post mark. Team Yellow had to pack up and go home.
"I was really looking forward to this," said Mike Skinner. "This was our first race together so I wasnt really sure what to expect out of the car. I couldnt believe how good the car was. The Team Yellow guys rolled the car out of the transporter absolutely dialed in and ready to go. C.R. Miller and his guys have something to be proud of. It wont rain in Las Vegas and the guys tell me that our Vegas car is even better than this one. I cant wait to get behind the wheel of that car."
Team Yellow Racing moves on to Las Vegas Motor Speedway on March 6th for the Sams Town 300.
