ALLSTAR Sprints: History and Membership Information

PONCE INLET, FL - The All Star Circuit of Champions sprint car series is once again making car owner and driver memberships available for the 1999 season, our 20th anniversary season. Membership applications are in the mail along with details on the 1999 season. Several changes for 1999 include a purse increase of $3,400 per event, with $5,000 to win for regular shows. Membership is necessary to receive points for the 1999 season, and members also receive additional Medical and Accident insurance. Anyone who needs a membership application should call the All Star office at (904) 756-9225.Several rule changes for the 1999 season include changes in the A feature lineup, added provisional starters and a change in race distances for fuel stops. First, for 1999 there will be a standard inversion of six cars for each A Main event. Provisional starting spots will be available to All Star members in 1999, with details to be released shortly. Also, for the purpose of calculation of fuel mileage, an additional 20 yellow flag laps will be run before a fuel stop is necessary. The complete 1999 racing schedule will be out shortly, but the traditional Speedweek race dates for three special events are set with Florida Speedweeks Feb. 4-7 at Volusia Raceway Park and Feb. 10-13 at East Bay Raceway, Western Pa. Speedweek June 9-13 and Ohio Speedweek June 27 to July 3.

Florida All Star Sprint 1999 Speedweeks Set at Volusia and East Bay (1/3/99)
PONCE INLET, FL - For the 17th consecutive season, the All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car series will invade the state of Florida in February for eight nights of racing.
The 1999 20th anniversary season kicks off Thursday, Feb. 4 at Volusia Raceway Park in Barberville, near Daytona. After four nights of action, Thurs. through Sunday, the series travels to East Bay Raceway in Gibsonton, near Tampa, for the East Bay Nationals, Wed.-Sat. Feb. 10-13, with Saturdays final paying $10,000 to win.
The All Stars began racing in Florida in 1983, and since that time have sanctioned 138 races in the Sunshine state at eight racetracks. East Bay leads the way with 58 events held, followed by Volusia Raceway Park with 39 races, Jax Raceways with 17, Ocala with 10, Florida Fairgrounds (6), Charlotte Co. Speedway (5), Putnam Co. (2) and a lone event at Lakeland.
Lakeland held their event in 1990, with Rocky Hodges coming home the winner. Putnam Countys 1991 shows saw Kevin Huntley and Bobby Davis Jr. in victory lane, while Charlotte Countys five events fell to Kenny Jacobs in 1991, a pair to Dave Blaney in 1992, and Todd Kane and Tony Elliott won the 1993 pavement events.
The Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa hosted the All Stars in 1984, with Steve Kinser and Doug Wolfgang winning, with Bobby Davis Jr. sweeping a pair of events in 1985 and Kinser sweeping the 1986 double.
Ocalas victory lane visits went to Davis and Jacobs in 1991, Frankie Kerr and Davis in 1992, Johnny Mackison, Jr. and Rickey Hood in 1993, Kevin Huntley, Hodges, Joey Saldana and Lance Dewease in 1994.
The oiled dirt of Jax hosted the All Stars from 1983-1994, with winners being Danny Smith, Doug Wolfgang (2), Bobby Allen, Keith Kauffman, Joe Gaerte, Kerr (2), Rocky Hodges (2), Steve Smith, Jack Hewitt, Mackison (2), Terry McCarl (2) and Saldana.
In the 39 events at Volusia, on both the 3/8 mile and half-mile dirt and pavement ovals, there have been 18 winners in 39 races. Leading the way at Volusia is Danny Lasoski with 8 wins, Dale Blaney, Gary Wright, Kenny Jacobs, Rocky Hodges and Keith Kauffman with three each, Robbie Stanley, Bobby Davis Jr., Jeff Shepard and Dave Blaney with a pair apiece, with single wins going to Tim Green, Doug Wolfgang, Jimmy Sills, Steve Stambaugh, Kerr, Joey Allen, Jac Haudenschild and Terry McCarl.
For 1999, East Bay Raceway will hold their 23rd annual Winternationals, with the 1999 version paying $10,000 to win on Saturday night. Predating the All Stars, East Bay Nationals winners were Paul Pitzer (1977), Doug Wolfgang (1978, 79, 80 and 81), Sammy Swindell 1982 and Steve Kinser (1983).
In All Star sanctioned action, there have been 29 different winners in 58 races. The multiple winners roster includes Davis, Jr. (13), Wright (5), Billy Pauch (4), Wolfgang (3), Kauffman (3), Dewease (3), Bobby Allen (2), Fred Rahmer (2), Cris Eash (2) and Bill Brian Jr., (2). Single victory lane visits have been made by Lee Osborne, Joe Saldana, Swindell, Hodges, Mackison, Mark Keegan, Paul Lotier, Johnny Herrera, Dave Blaney, Steve Smith, Kenny Adams, Randy Wolfe, Jacobs, Terry Shepherd, Lasoski, Haudenschild, Stevie Smith, Brian Schnee and Jeff Shepard.
With the final night winner each season being crowned the East Bay Nationals champion, titles have gone to Sammy Swindell (1984), Bobby Davis Jr. (1985-86-87-92), Paul Lotier (1988), Steve Smith (1989), Randy Wolfe (1990), Kenny Jacobs (1991), Keith Kauffman (1993), Stevie Smith (1994), Lance Dewease (1995), Bill Brian Jr. (1996), Brian Schnee (1997) and Jeff Shepard (1998).
For 1999 at East Bay, new clay has been added to the track surface, with drivers looking forward to lowering the track standard of 12.691 seconds set by Lance Dewease on 2/12/98.
