Tracks: 1998 Awards Banquet, Swap Meet In January at Placerville Speedway

Placerville, Calif. - The 1998 racing season may be long over and the 1999 schedule is now under construction but Placerville Speedway has two more events taking place in January that will completely wrap up the past season.On Saturday, January 2 John Padjen Motorsports will host the 11th Annual Gold Country Racer's Swap Meet and on Saturday, January 23 the 1998 Placerville Speedway championship awards banquet will take place. Both events will take place in the main building of the El Dorado County Fairground.
The Gold Country Racer's Swap Meet scheduled for the day after New Years, will permit racers and car owners to sell and swap race cars, haulers, parts, equipment and much more. This annual event draws thousands to the El Dorado County Fairground each year and features vendors for all forms of oval track racing including midgets, dwarf cars, sprint cars, stock cars and much more. Food and beverages are also available at the swap meet as well as the ever popular T-shirt auction.
Those interested in selling equipment at the swap meet must obtain a vendor's permit which are on sale through the office of John Padjen Motorsports. Inside and outside spaces are available with prices beginning at $35 if pre-registration takes place prior to December 18.
Registration after that date will cost an additional $5.
Set up time for vendors will take place on January 2 between 4-5 p.m. with the doors opening to the public at 6 p.m. Admission to the swap meet is free.
On Saturday, January 23 the El Dorado County Fairground will be home to the 1998 Placerville Speedway championship awards banquet. This event will honor the top ten point earners of the three weekly divisions in the "Thunder in the Foothills" Championship Challenge Series." In addition to the top ten drivers being honored, the season's Rookie of the Year titles will be announced for each division.
The Placerville Speedway Awards Banquet will feature a steak dinner prior to the awards ceremony followed by dancing after the program. Those wishing to dine at the awards banquet must make dinner reservations prior to January 9 through the business office of John Padjen Motorsports. Dinner tickets are $12 each. Those wishing to attend only the awards portion of the program may purchase a $5 ticket and admission will take place for these individuals immediately following dinner.
The awards banquet doors will open at 6 p.m. on January 23 with dinner beginning at 6:30 and the awards ceremony beginning at approximately 7:30. Following the awards ceremony a drawing will be held from dinner tickets for a season pass to the 1999 racing season good for two people.
