7 December 1998

Las Vegas competitor Rob MacCachren, driving a Ford F150 pickup, scored a pair of resounding victories Saturday in the Pro 4 Division, highlighting the first day of the Championship Off Road Racing (CORR) Exxon Superflo Winter Series Off-Road Races at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway half-mile.

The 33-year-old MacCachren mastered a 3/4-mile layout to beat Curt Leduc of Cherry Valley, Calif. and Jamey Flannery of Wisconsin Dells, Wisc. to capture the first race, before coming back to beat Flannery and seven-time Mint 400 champion Walker Evans in the finale.

In the Pro Lite Division, Johnny Greaves of Depere, Wisc. took both races in 16-truck fields.

Las Vegan Brendan Gaughan finished third behind former motocross star Ricky Johnson of Moorsville, N.C. and Scott Taylor of Belvidere, Ill. in the first round of the Pro 2 category. A total of 104 entries competed in 20 classes. Gates open for second-round action in all classes at 9:45 a.m. Sunday.

Admission for Sunday's final round is $15 for adults, $10 for kids, military and seniors. Kids under the age of 16 will be admitted free if they bring a toy for Child Haven or a non-perishable food item for the Salvation Army.
