NASCAR-BGN: Todd Bodine/Slim Jim Atlanta

6 November 1998

The last time Slim Jim #30 driver Todd Bodine raced at Atlanta Motor Speedway, in this years earlier Winston Cup race, he started from the outside pole and finished tenth. Atlanta is also the scene of his best Winston Cup finish, a third in November of 1994. He has competed in six Winston Cup races at AMS.

In the Busch Series he has run four times with a best finish of sixth. "We should be real good at Atlanta," said Bodine. "We are taking the car we ran eighth in at Charlotte and are going to use the same set up I had on the Winston Cup car that was on the front row in March. At Charlotte that car would have contended for the win if the cautions had fallen our way."

Bodine spent Tuesday of this week in Miami helping his nephew, Barry Bodine prepare for the upcoming Busch race at Homestead Motorsports Complex. "I helped Barry with the set up so he could concentrate on learning how to drive the race track," said Todd. "Of course that should also help me and the Slim Jim team when we go back for the Busch race next week."

Homestead is the only Penske affiliated race track where Bodine has not recorded a Busch Series victory. He won at Nazareth and Michigan in 1992, Rockingham in 1995 and California in 1997. "After seeing what first pays ($67,750) for the Miami race, I think he needs to add that one to the list," said Bodines wife Lynn.
