NASCAR-BGN: Parsons Sets Aim for Victory in Dura-Lube 200

5 September 1998

DARLINGTON, SC - There is a special feeling that comes with winning any Busch Grand National race, just ask any driver that has been lucky enough to take the checkered flag. On a few rare occasions a driver has won the race sponsored by his very own sponsor. Dura-Lube driver, Phil Parsons is hoping to do just that this weekend in the Dura-Lube 200 Presented by Bi-Lo.

In his first year driving the Dura-Lube Chevrolet, Parsons has been close to capturing the checkered flag on a couple of occasions. Just last race in Bristol, Parsons rallied from a lap down with under 25 laps to go and finished second. With a few more laps, Parsons felt like he could have been the one celebrating in victory lane. Parsons is hoping to carry the momentum into this weekend's Busch Grand National race.

If experience will have a role in determining the winner of the Dura-Lube 200 Presented by Bi-Lo, then look no further than Parsons. With over 2,250 laps of Busch Grand National racing on the track and even more Winston Cup laps, Parsons will be able to rely on his experience to guide him to the front. Parsons has recorded 6 top-five and 8 top-ten finishes in 18 Busch Grand National starts at "The Track too Tough to Tame." Missing from his record is a win, but Parsons hopes to take care of that on Saturday.

"Our race team is really performing right now, we are so close to bringing home a victory," Parsons said. "It would be pretty special for all the folks at Dura-Lube to be able to meet them in Victory Lane."

Parsons wasn't especially pleased with the spring Darlington race. Parsons finished that race in 13th position and is counting on a better run on Saturday.

"We were disappointed with our race back in March," Parsons said. "I believe things will be different this time around, we are hoping to take what we learned from that race and put it to good use on Saturday."

With the talents of crew chief Gene Nead and the experience of The Dura-Lube Racing Team, don't be surprised to see Parsons battle his way into victory lane on Saturday.

With the way the Dura-Lube Chevrolet has been performing this season, the timing is perfect for a victory and Phil Parsons is starting to get real hungry in his quest to win.
