Ford Celebrates 35 Years of Mustang with 1999 Debut

3 September 1998

Nashville, TN -- Ford unveiled the 1999 Mustang to members of the Mustang Club of America today. New features for the 1999 model include enhancements to the design, powertrain, and handling in the form of a new exterior design, increased horsepower for the V-6 and V-8 engines, and an all speed traction control system.

The new Mustang's look is defined by its new chisled lines and stronger "pyramid" form. The "pyramid" refers to the way the body widens toward the wheels for a lower visual center of gravity. The interior includes a six-way power driver's seat, better fitting seat belts, and premium speaker improvements.

The Auto Channel's Brian Yesowitch spoke this morning with Janine Bay, Chief Program Engineer for the 1999 Mustang. Janine has worked on the Mustang since 1994.
