Tracks: Bloomington Speedway Racing Schedule Gets Busier in '98
28 May 1998BLOOMINGTON, IN (May 28, 1998) - In April, we were ready for opening night. We were ready, but the weatherman wasn't. Now, with the rain and race rescheduling, Bloomington Speedway will be busy the next six Friday nights. Here's an overview of the upcoming excitement.
The $2000 to win winged sprint car program has been rescheduled to this Friday, May 29. With the opening event of the Pennzoil Cup sprint car season paying $150 to start, and the Pennzoil World of Outlaws just weeks away, we are looking pit lane to be filled with wicked fast winged sprinters. The WalMart Tire & Lube Express Street Stocks and Open Wheel Modifieds fill the racing slate. Mr. Backwards will also be on hand for practice as he prepares for his death-defying leap.
June 5th will be our first non-wing sprint car program of the season. In addition to the Pennzoil Cup sprinters, WalMart Tire & Lube Express Street Stocks and open wheel modifieds, Mr. Backwards will make his big jump. The daredevil will attempt to clear four cars while riding his motorcycle backwards. Remember that fans age 12 and under get in FREE, except for Pennzoil World of Outlaws night.
The Pennzoil World of Outlaws returns to Bloomington Speedway on the next Friday, June 12. The WOO championship is wide open this year, and Mark and Karl Kinser, Steve Kinser, Stevie Smith, Jac Haudenschild and Johnny Herrera are giving Sammy Swindell all he can handle. Bloomington Speedway is the fastest quarter-mile that the Pennzoil Outlaws will race on. With $7,000 to win, and a $40,840 purse, this is one race you won't want to miss.
We received a phone call from a Bloomington Speedway fan last week and she told a story that we wanted to share. When she experienced car problems one evening, someone stopped to aid her. After the Good Samaritan helped her get to a repair shop, he pointed out that he stopped because he saw her Bloomington Speedway bumper sticker. We always hear that racing people stick together, and it's in the grandstand as well as the pits. Now we're not recommending our bumper stickers as a replacement for AAA, but this is just one more illustration of why we feel that we have the best fans in racing.
Since we have the best fans, Fan Appreciation Night has become one of our favorite events. With May 22's rainout, we have rescheduled the $5 Fan Appreciation special for the best fans in racing on Friday, June 19. The program remains the same, the Pennzoil Cup sprint cars, Open Wheel Modifieds, and the WalMart Tire & Lube Express Street Stocks.
The Pennzoil Cup non-wing sprinters return to the red clay on June 26. In addition to the regular program of sprint cars, open wheel modifieds and the WalMart Tire & Lube Express Street Stocks, we will have a wild and wooly "Owners and Mechanics Race" for the street stocks.
The following Friday (July 3), Bloomington Speedway kicks off the busy Independence Day weekend with a big racing program and our best fireworks extravaganza. On the track you'll see the American Winged Mini-Sprints, WalMart Tire & Lube Express Street Stocks and open wheel modifieds. General admission is just $10.
The pit gate opens at 4:30, and the grandstand general admission at 5:30 pm. Hot laps begin at 6:00, with racing at 7:45. General admission is just $12, with all fans ages 12 and under admitted FREE, when accompanied by an adult. Pit admission is $20.
