NASCAR-FMT: Pecko Qualifies for Stafford Spring Sizzler
30 April 1998Stafford Springs CT: The third time was a charm for Dave Pecko and the NAPA Auto Parts #42 Racing Team. The second year asphalt modified team traveled to the historic Stafford Motor Speedway for their third Featherlite Modified Series qualifying effort of 1998 in hopes of making their first start of the season in the touring division of NASCAR's Oldest Series.
Saturday's practice resulted in the Vandling (PA) resident posting faster times, and becoming more comfortable with the car each time out. In time trials, Pecko posted the 16th fastest qualifying time earning the team an eighth row starting post for the Spring Sizzler. Sunday's race day saw rain create a one-week postponement in the event, but not even Mother Nature could dampen the spirits of the BDR Racing Team. Driver Dave Pecko was happy with Saturday's results and says, "It was just an awesome weekend for our team. This weekend was the very first time we have seen Stafford, and to come up here and qualify sixteenth was just amazing. Seeing the starting lineup, and seeing that we'll begin the race next to the Martinsville winner (Mike Ewanitsko) makes us feel very fortunate. We want to come back here next Sunday and make it through the 200-laps, and hopefully get a good finish out of it!." Crew Chief Rich Curtis was pleased with the team's effort and says, "This season, we've attempted to qualify at Riverside Park and Martinsville on the Modified Tour and although we didn't make the shows, we were able to gain knowledge about racing with the tour that has helped us along.
To be able to start the race among some of the best drivers in the northeast is a true honor, and we hope that we can continue to continue the learning process and improve each time out. We're very excited about next Sunday, and we hope to have a respectable showing for the NAPA Auto Parts Pontiac!"
