Canadian Road Racing - Marybeth Harrison Takes Points Lead
28 April 1998
DOUBLE WINS FOR FOUNTAIN TIRE RACING AS MARYBETH HARRISON JUMPS INTO THE POINT STANDING LEAD Vancouver, Canada--Marybeth Harrison took home two first place trophies at this weekend's road racing event at Mission Raceway Park. One first place finish was earned in the ICSCC Formula Ford division where Marybeth also finished 2nd overall thanks to an exciting last-lap pass! "I didn't even know I was making a pass for position," explains Marybeth. "My crew chief [Marty Knoll of Kelowna, BC] had shown me the pit board but I misunderstood the communication. Luckily, I was still going 100% all out and made a pass for 2nd going into the hair pin." The second first place finish was earned in the CFDA (Canadian Formula Drivers Association) where Marybeth qualified first and managed to hold off the field at the start to lead the 28 minute race to the checkered. "We were told that the race had been shortened to 20 minutes so I was surprised that we just seemed to keep going and going!" states Marybeth. "It wasn't until we went through the scales that I found out we had gone an extra 8 minutes. There was some concern that we had burned enough fuel to drop us down below the legal limit, but thankfully we were ok!" The win puts Marybeth in solid lead for the CFDA championship ahead of April 12th winner, Michael Lensen of Surrey. Marybeth drives the Fountain Tire Racing 1993 Euroswift - a Formula 1600 that produces 110 horsepower and reaches top speeds of approximately 130 mph. Marybeth's next race will be held May 23rd and 24th at Mission Raceway Park. For more information, contact Mach One Racing at 604 939 7333 or http://www.mach1-racing.com.
