NASCAR-GDS: Nascar Goody's Dash Series Schedule Expands to Include Louisville, Langley and Volusia Speedways

9 March 1998

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. --NASCAR officials announced today revisions to the 1998 Goody's Dash Series schedule, a NASCAR Touring division. The first change will bring the teams to the site of last year's sold out show at Langley Speedway in Hampton, Va., on Sept. 5 for a 100-lap shootout.

Two weeks later, on Sept. 19, the teams will make their first appearance ever in the "Blue Grass State" for a 125-lap event at the Louisville Motor Speedway in Louisville, Ky. The Sept. 19 date was originally scheduled for an event at South Boston Speedway in South Boston, Va. However, a scheduling conflict for the Speedway forced South Boston officials to cancel their date and are currently looking at other options in the 1998 schedule.

From Louisville the teams will head back to the "Sunshine State" Oct. 3 for a 125-lap race at the all new, paved 3/8-mile racing surface at Volusia Speedway Park, in Barberville, Fla.

The 1997 event at Langley Speedway was a huge success for both the Speedway and the Series as a standing room only crowd watched Brian Sockwell hold off a hard charging B.J. Mackey, who crossed the finish line sideways in his attempt to beat Sockwell to the checkers.

"We're very happy to be hosting a Goody's Dash Series event again this year." said Langley Speedway owner, Wayne Wyatt. "Working with schedules can be a real challenge and we're pleased to have finally arrived at a date. Last year was a complete sell out for this espn2 broadcast event and with the great show the Goody's Dash guys put on, we look forward to packing it again. The later date this year should make it better for both the fans and the competitors from a weather standpoint. Plus, it's a Labor Day weekend show so everybody has the day off, there will be lots of visitors in town, and we'll be able to provide them with some first class entertainment."

The Louisville Motor Speedway event will mark the most northern exposure for the NASCAR Goody's Dash Series since 1986 when the Series visited the Pocono Speedway in Pennsylvania.

Louisville Motor Speedway Vice President Frank Scott Jr., expressed the speedway's enthusiasm about hosting another NASCAR Touring Series event.

"We're thrilled to be able to add the Goody's Dash Series as our third NASCAR Touring Series." said Scott. "And we're really excited about being able to get a look at the new V-6's in action at our 7/16-mile "Super D" speedway. The V-6's and the 15-inch wheels have really enhanced the competition in this Series. When you combine the changes in the cars with the changes we've made in the racing surface, widening the turns and increasing the banking, I think the fans are in for one heck of a show. Three abreast racing will probably be commonplace."

"It's just a great Series." Scott continued. "These teams are one step away from NASCAR Busch Grand National and Craftsman Trucks and the 125-lap race here will give them ample opportunity to show their stuff. We're just proud to have them at Louisville Motor Speedway."

Volusia Speedway Park spokesperson, Debbie Cerkowski, expressed that speedway's excitement about the Goody's Dash Series returning to their facility after a one year layoff last season.

"It's going to be great to have the Goody's Dash Series back at Volusia in 1998," Cerkowski remarked. The newly paved 3/8-mile track here should be perfect for this type of race car. The turns are wide and the whole layout of the track is very conducive to good close, side by side racing."

The addition of Langley Speedway, Louisville Motor Speedway and Volusia Speedway Park to the Goody's Dash Series schedule brings the total number of races to 20 for the Series in 1998.
