Brazilian Racing News: All-Woman Racing League
27 February 1998
Brazil, following Argentina's lead, will create a new women's racing series for 1998. This series will be run with Fiat Uno 1.6 (the same raced last year in the Novatos Championship). All cars will be prepared by the same engineer, Amadeu Rodriguez, always trying to make the car as driveable as possible, as smooth as possible, without losing speed. Series promoter Ricardo Albquerque said, "the good thing is that the girls dont have to worry about anything, only about travel and personal expenses, all other things will be provided by us." There are already 30 drivers for the championship, including Maria Helena Fittipaldi, first wife of ex-F1 and F-Indy Champion Emerson Fittipaldi. "If she wants to race, I give her all my support. As I will not be here, I will ask some friend of mine to give her tips. All my family will be racing this year, not just me," laughed Emmo. Each race will cost US$ 5,800.00 for each driver, all included (car, mechanics, preparation, spares, insurance, tyres...). Marc Zimmermann - The Auto Channel
