Brazilian Racing News: Tony Kanaan
27 February 1998
Brazilian driver Tony Kanaan, who will race this year in the Fedex Championship Car Series, is in Sao Paulo since last friday. Kanaan is one of the favorite drivers to clinch the "Rookie of the Year" title in 1998, alongside J.J. Lehto and Helio Castro Neves. Tony is in Sao Paulo to prepare himself better physically for the start of this season in Homestead next week. "I am training 6 hours a day in a gym, swiming pool, and running to be in my best shape at the start of the season," said the Brazilian. When asked about the Rookie of the Year title, Kanaan answers, "I agree with Steve Horne who told me I should not worry about this title, I should focus on winning races, and that will be my target this year!" Team boss Steve Horne said, "our biggest problem now is to setup the car, as we have only one car and Tony has no team mates; we have only one chance to see how the car is developing!" Kanaan will be only one of several Brazilians racing in the Fedex Championship Cars Series. Alongside him will be Gil de Ferran, Mauricio Gugelmin, Christian Fittipaldi, Andre Ribeiro and Helio Castro Neves. Marc Zimmermann - The Auto Channel
