Brazilian Racing News: F-Chevrolet Jr. in 1998
24 February 1998
1998 will be the first year of the newest Brazilian series, the F-Chevrolet Jr. The series was created by GM Brazil for drivers that are leaving the karts. F-Chevrolet Jr. cars will have fixed wings that can't be moved, Techspeed chassis, and 1.6 GM engines with 100 hp. The series will be for drivers that are at least 16 years old and have not more than 3 car races in their personal records. Rodrigo Ferraz, 1997 brazilian "A" karting champion is one of the favorites to clinch the 1998 title. "I am very happy to get into car racing without having to look for sponsorship," said Ferraz, who got the Chevrolet Jr. seat as a prize for winning the Brazilian kart championship from Schincariol. "This series will be maybe the cheapest in the world and with such a great success in the media" said Alvaro Fiocco, promoter of this series. "With US$ 46.000 you can take part in all 8 races of this season, and all official training days without having any extra costs. This is half the price that a good driver would have to pay to be competitive in karts." added Fiocco. Marc Zimmermann - The Auto Channel
