New Clay for Bloomington Oval

BLOOMINGTON, IN - There are many things a racing track needs to do before opening for a new season. At Bloomington Speedway, one of the most critical tasks is replacing the clay lost during racing action. With more than a dozen racing programs featuring nearly a 100 cars each night, the amount of clay thrown out of the racing groove becomes significant. Although much of the clay is tossed over the tracks banking, where it can be recovered, the amount of clay packed on the sprint cars, open wheel modifieds and street stocks is not insignificant. This clay is either scraped off in the pits, or hauled out in the cars trailer.

It has become standard procedure at Bloomington Speedway to replace the rich red clay after each racing season, and this winter more than 100 scrapers were required to fill the channel carved through the center of the racing groove.

Bloomington Speedway features thrilling sprint cars, open wheel modifieds and street stocks racing from mid-April through September. The popular track is located an hour south of Indianapolis, on Bloomingtons south side.
