Derek Daly Named Grand Marshal of the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona

Noblesville, IN-- Rolex has announced Derek Daly as the Grand Marshal of the 1998 24 Hours of Daytona Race. The former Formula One and Indy car driver competed six times in the world famous endurance race from 1986 through 1992, with such teams as Porsche, Jaguar, and Nissan. He scored a best finish of second place in 1991 and the pole position in 1992 with the dominant Nissan team.

"It is an honor to be asked by Rolex to be the Grand Marshal," comments Daly. "Having been a sports car fan since I was twelve and having been fortunate enough to compete at Daytona, Sebring and LeMans, it is an absolute thrill to be involved in such a historic race."

Daly's responsibilities as Grand Marshal will include giving the command to start engines and waving the green flag to begin the daylong event. He will also be the keynote speaker at the Saturday night sponsor dinner.

Daly is currently a color commentator with Speedvision Motorsports Network, TNN, Network Ten Australia, and the CBC while working on a broad range of racing series including CART, IRL and Trans-Am. He is also the owner of SpeedCentre Racing School, which opened in November 1996 at the new Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
