16 December 1997
WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- Elf Race Fuels and Lubricants has renewed its title sponsorship of the AMA 250cc Grand Prix Series and stepped-up its support in other 1998 Superbike Series race classes as well, American Motorcyclist Association Pro Racing announced today. "We're looking forward to broadening our involvement with AMA Pro Racing and enjoying a very competitive 1998 Superbike season," said Elf National Sales Manager Matt Neve. Elf is one of the world's largest producers of race specific oil and gas, and the company is a long-time backer of championship motorsports world-wide. The 1998 season will be Elf's second with AMA 250cc Grand Prix racing. In 1997 Elf paid $10,000 in season-end bonuses to the top 250cc Grand Prix riders. In 1998 Elf will expand their rider bonus program by posting contingency awards in all Superbike Series classes. Four-time 250cc Grand Prix Champion Rich Oliver was the top winner of the 1997 Elf Race Fuels and Lubricants bonuses. Oliver -- a master of 250cc Grand Prix racing -- won every race during the 1996 and 1997 seasons and has taken the championship for the past four years in a row.
