AMA: 1997 Season Final Supercross Standings - Damon Huffman Champion

DAMON HUFFMAN WINS WORLD SUPERCROSS TITLE WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- Damon Huffman won the 1997 Federation Internationale Motocycliste (FIM) World Supercross Championship at the Dec. 6 final round in Geneva, Switzerland, finishing a conservative 10th and 13th in the individual motos. Huffman, of Acton, Calif., earned 165 points in the seven-event series, finishing 11 points ahead of second-ranked Mickael Pichon of LeMans, France. Huffman rode his Kawasaki to a pair of moto wins at round two in Bercy, France, and podium finishes in individual motos in round three, also in France, and at round five in Osaka, Japan. The World Supercross Championship is Huffman's third pro title. He won the AMA 125cc Western Region Supercross Series championship in 1994 and 1995. His 1997 season included a win at the Atlanta round of the 250cc Supercross Series and an overall win at the Troy, Ohio, round of the 125cc National Motocross Series.
