Duhamel and the Smokin' Joe's Honda team won the 1997 Pro Honda Oils 600cc SuperSport championship with five wins and two podium finishes during the 11-race season. The top ten riders of the 600cc SuperSport Series each received an award from the $10,000 championship bonus fund provided by series title sponsor Pro Honda Oils, producer of performance lubricants and specialty products for racing and street use. Pro Honda Oils will retain the AMA 600cc SuperSport title sponsorship for the 1998 season. Duhamel is the championship record-holder for the 600cc SuperSport class, having won the 1991, 1993, 1995, 1996, and 1997 titles.
