Rolls-Royce for Sale

28 October 1997

The ultimate in Britishness, the very essence of what was once a great empire, is for sale.

Rolls-Royce, with the world famous Flying Lady on its huge gleaming radiator, will, in all probability, go to Germany's BMW. The Munich based automaker already produces engines for the next generation of "Rollers," so it would seem to be the logical choice by Vickers, the arms manufaturer which current owns the Crewe based company.

The bidders apart from the German carmaker are BMW's deadly rival Mercedes Benz, Ferrari (owned, of course, by Fiat), and Ford.

My money is on the Bavariansi, but just like with MCI, you really cannot tell until that certain fat lady sings.
