7 October 1997

AGREEMENT REACHED FOR MOTOR SPEEDWAY IN KANSAS CITY, KS

KANSAS CITY, KS (October 6, 1997) - Officials for the new Unified
Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas and International
Speedway Corporation (ISC) today announced the successful completion
of negotiations for the construction of a world class, 1.5-mile oval
motor superspeedway in the western sector of Kansas City, Kansas.

The estimated $197 million project is a state-of-the-art facility that
will be located on approximately 1,000 acres of land at the northwest
corner of Interstates 70 and 435. Scheduled for completion in the year
2000, the track will initially have seating for 75,000 racing fans.

"Today is a major step toward having a world class speedway in Kansas
City, Kansas," said Mayor/Chief Executive Officer Carol
Marinovich. "It is now up to the attorneys to finalize all the
necessary agreements. When the development agreement is finalized, it
will go before the International Speedway Corporation's board of
directors and the Unified Board of Commissioners."

Mayor Marinovich said the public and private partnership wouldn't have
been possible without the support of the State of Kansas, and
specifically Governor Bill Graves.

The cost to build the facility has a breakdown of:
  - 72 percent ISC and project supported
  - 22 percent State of Kansas
  - 6 percent Wyandotte County/Kansas, City, Kansas

"We're pleased that we successfully concluded the 60-day negotiating
period," said Grant Lynch, a vice-president for ISC. "We have worked
very hard with Kansas City, Kansas officials and Kansas state
officials, and found them to be very good negotiating partners. We
look forward to taking the next necessary steps toward developing this
exciting project which will prove to be a tremendous benefit to the
entire community."

Wyandotte County Administrator Dennis Hays said he expects the project
to go before the Unified Board of Commissioners "by mid to late
November for consideration of final approval."

Hays added, "We truly appreciate the good faith negotiations which
took place during the past 60 days. We are proud of the partnership we
have established with the quality individuals from the International
Speedway Corporation, and look forward to them becoming a permanent
member of our community."

The Unified Government and ISC officials will host two public meetings
about the project:

 - 7 pm, Wednesday, Oct. 15 at the Wyandotte County Fairgrounds, 98th Street
and State Avenue.
 - 7 pm, Tuesday, Oct. 21 (site to be determined).
