MARK MARTIN RACE RECAP: ALL PRO BUMPER TO BUMPER 300

CONCORD, NC - Mark Martin came so close to victory lane in his
Winn-Dixie Ford on Saturday, but he couldn't get by Jimmy Spencer to
get there. Martin started third in the 200-lap race and took the lead
by lap 55. He led until lap 75 when he was shuffled back to third on a
restart behind Spencer and Joe Nemechek. Martin and his teammate, Jeff
Burton, battled for the lead for 10 laps before Martin took the lead
until his pit stop on lap 151. Martin's car was working well, but
Spencer was fast all day. The two drivers raced side-by-side in the
final laps, but Spencer came out ahead, leaving Martin in second
place.

"That was Spencer's race," Martin said. "My car was working really
well, but he was good. I was really pleased that he raced me clean and
he deserved the win. We had a good finish, but I really want to break
that win record of Jack Ingram's. We have two more chances and
hopefully we can win at least one of them."

Martin's next Busch race will be at North Carolina Motor Speedway on
Saturday, October 25. The final race of the season will be in
Homestead, Fla. on November 9.
