AMA/Prostar Series AMA Nationals Results and Report from Columbus

6 October 1997

AMA/Prostar - AMA Nationals - Columbus, OH - 10/4-5/97
VOSE AND CLARK, QUICKEST RUNS IN HISTORY AT AMA NATIONALS

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Billy Vose and Gary Clark reset the record books
today in the Pro Mod and Funny Bike classes at the AMA Nationals, held
at National Trail Raceway, the seventh of eight events in the 1997
AMA/Prostar series.

Going into eliminations, both riders held the top provisional spot in
their classes. As eliminations progressed, they continued to improve
their performance to gain absolute dominance.

In the final round of Pro Mod, Rick Bunting ran one of the quickest
passes in Pro Mod history, 6.95-seconds, but it was not good enough to
hold off Voses' 6.89-second record setting pass. Prior to Vose running
two this event, no Pro-Mod motorcycle had ever been in the 6.8-second
range.

The Funny Bike class final saw Tom Perry running yet another
class-quickest run, 6.83-seconds, but he could not hold off Clark's
6.74-second elapsed time backed up with a warp speed over 201 mph.

Ernie Velasco took runner up to Keith Dennis in the 600 Super Sport
class, but second was good enough for him because the points he gained
allowed him to take the points lead and claim the 1997 AMA/Prostar
Championship one race early.
