AMA Hillclimb Series on the Homestretch
17 September 1997
R97113 September 16, 1997 For Immediate Release WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- The 1997 American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) National Hillclimb has but three races remaining on the schedule, yet the championships are far from decided. The hillclimb in Middlebury, Ind., this Sunday, Sept. 21, will go a long way in sorting out who will have a chance to claim the number one plate. This will be the second time this season that the national series has visited the small northern Indiana town. Middlebury was the site of the opening round of the series back in May, hosted by the Iron Horsemen Motorcycle Club. Leading the climbers into the 800cc round ten of twelve is Greg Williams of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Williams and his Honda have two wins and a total of 95 points for the season. He is followed closely by Harley-Davidson riders James Large of Orient, Ohio, with 92 points, and Steve Dresser of Arkport, NY with 90 points. The 500cc class has turned into a tight two-way battle between defending champion Paul Pinsonnault of Brockford, Mass. and Richard Soter III of Owings Mills, Md. Only three points separate the pair coming into Middlebury. While all eyes will be on Pinsonnault and Soter, it's very possible that one of the other 500cc riders will step up and steal the show. The series has been extremely competitive with five riders earning victories this year. -30- Connie Fleming American Motorcyclist Association Public Relations Administrator http://www.ama-cycle.org 614-891-2425, ext. 258 Contact: Bill Nordquist Phone: (614) 891-2425 Fax: (614) 891-7368
