Emig Wins Fourth AMA Motocross Title

R97101 August 28, 1997 For Immediate Release EMIG CLINCHES A FOURTH AMA 250CC NATIONAL MOTOCROSS TITLE WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- Kawasaki's Jeff Emig, 26, won his second consecutive American Motorcyclist Association 250cc National Motocross Series Championship last Sunday by finishing second at the AMA National in Binghamton, N.Y. The title is the fourth AMA National Championship title for Emig, who lives in Riverside, Calif. Emig has one more AMA National this weekend at Delmont, Pa., before he turns his attention to the international Motocross des Nations competition Sept. 13-14 in Nismes, Belgium. Emig, who began his pro racing career in 1989, has had an incredible run of late, winning three major national championships in the last 12 months. Emig's impressive streak began last September, when he earned his first AMA 250cc National Motocross Championship in a winner-take-all duel with long-time rival Jeremy McGrath at Delmont. He then came through to win his first AMA Supercross Championship at Las Vegas in May, after nabbing an impressive five victories in the 15-race series. In Outdoor Nationals this year, Emig has already won six races and has the chance to win his seventh Sunday at Delmont. If Emig does win at Delmont, he will move into a tie with Mike Kiedrowski and Jeff Stanton for sixth on the all-time AMA 250cc motocross wins list, with 12 career victories. In addition to his successes stateside, Emig is also one of the most successful U.S. riders in international competition. He has been named to the U. S. Motocross des Nations team five times and has helped the U.S. earn three victories in the prestigious olympic-like competition. Emig earned a nomination for AMA Speedvision Pro Athlete of the Year Award for his part in the 1992 MX des Nations team.
