AMA Champions to be Honored in Vegas

R97095 August 25, 1997 For Immediate Release AMA CHAMPIONS TO BE HONORED IN LAS VEGAS WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- The 23rd annual American Motorcyclist Association National Champions Awards Banquet will take place on Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Flamingo Hilton in Las Vegas, Nev. The awards banquet is an evening of celebration that honors the champions from all disciplines of AMA racing. Highlighting the gala evening will be the naming of the 1997 AMA Speedvision Professional Athlete of the Year. 1996 AMA Supercross Champion Jeremy McGrath won the AMA Speedvision Professional Athlete of the Year award last year. McGrath joined an impressive group of past Athlete of the Year winners that includes legendary racers such as Kenny Roberts, Bob Hannah, Bruce Penhall, Freddie Spencer and Jeff Ward. In addition to the Athlete of the Year, champions from road racing, supercross, motocross, dirt track, speedway, hillclimb, drag racing, off-road and more will also be honored. A reception will be held at 6:30 p.m., followed by the awards dinner at 7:30 p.m. Formal attire is requested. Tickets are $50 each, and seating is limited.
