EMIG RIDING HIGH COMING INTO MILLVILLE AMA NATIONAL MOTOCROSS

WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- Jeff Emig is riding the high of a two-race winning
streak coming into round 10 of the American Motorcyclist Association
National Motocross Series this Sunday at the Millville, Minnesota, Spring
Creek Motocross Park. The defending AMA 250cc National Motocross champion
and current series leader comes to Millville with the confidence of not
only his current win streak but also the fact that he is the defending
Spring Creek 250cc winner.

Ironically, while Emig appears to be almost a sure bet to win the 1997
championship, he does have a reason to feel at least some trepidation about
this weekend's race. After all, it was at Millville last year that Emig's
arch-rival, Jeremy McGrath, suffered a big crash in practice that cost him
the momentum that was seemingly leading him to his second AMA 250cc
Motocross title. Emig hopes to escape the fate that befell McGrath and go
on to win his third straight National at Millville.

While Emig is favored this weekend, a number of top 250cc riders have shown
the ability to beat the champ on any given weekend.

Yamaha's John Dowd has experienced a resurgence this season, winning two
races in a row mid-season. Dowd won the 250cc national at Millville in
1994, so he knows what it takes to win there.

Another former Millville winner is Mike Kiedrowski. Kiedrowski has suffered
a tough season in his first year back after a one-year retirement.
Kiedrowski looked good last week in Troy, Ohio, and could be a factor this
weekend.

McGrath would love to get a win at the track that bit him last year. It
would be his first victory at Spring Creek.

It's anyone's guess who will come out on top in the 125cc class at
Millville. Emig's Kawasaki teammate Damon Huffman became the fourth winner
in the last six races last week in Ohio.

Huffman should be one of the top contenders along with series leader Ricky
Carmichael, defending champ Steve Lamson, last year's runner up Kevin
Windham and 1995 Millville 125cc winner Robbie Reynard.
