NEW RACES HIGHLIGHT 1998 AMA PRO RACING SCHEDULE

WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- New races have been added to the American
Motorcyclist Association (AMA) Superbike and Grand National Series
calendar for the 1998, increasing the number of times the nation's top
riders will come to the starting line.

The AMA/MBNA Superbike Series will visit one new venue in 1998. The
New Mexico International Raceway in Albuquerque is slated to be
completed in 1998 and will host an AMA/MBNA Superbike Series race on
Sept. 4-6. The series will also return to Willow Springs Raceway in
Rosamond, Calif., just north of Los Angeles. Willow Springs last
hosted an AMA Superbike Series race in 1990, when Randy Renfrow won
the Superbike final. The AMA/MBNA Superbike Series will once again
kick off at Phoenix International Raceway in February and conclude at
Las Vegas Motor Speedway in October. The addition of the Albuquerque
and Willow Springs races raises the total of Superbike events for 1998
to 12, the highest number of races in a single season since 1985.

The AMA Grand National Series remains largely unchanged for the '98
season. The Grand National schedule will feature 25 races, starting
with the traditional kickoff in Daytona Beach, Fla. in March and end
in Del Mar, Calif., in October.

The 1998 AMA National Motocross Series will remain at 13 events for
1998, starting in Gainesville, Fla., in March and ending in Delmont,
Pa. in September.

Fresh off its most successful and competitive season ever, the 1998
AMA Supercross Series will once again kick off the 1998 AMA Pro Racing
season at the Los Angeles Coliseum on Jan. 10. After a one-year
hiatus due to construction, the Supercross series will return to San
Diego's Jack Murphy Stadium, one of the most popular stops on the
Supercross tour, on Feb. 7. The series is slated to have a total of
15 races concluding in Las Vegas on May 2.
