Jeremy McGrath Comes Home Second . . . A First
01/20/97
Jeremy McGrath, the AMA Motocross super star, finally lost one at the L.A. Coliseum. The four time national champ from Canyon Lake, Ca switched from Honda to Suzuki for the 1997 season (in a fit of pique no less) and found out for the first time in 12 races what it feels like to NOT finish first. His old team mate Steve Lamson took over Jeremy's Honda 250cc ride and bested the wonder-boy taking the lead on lap seven of the 700 yard course. A chilled California crowd of 37,000 watched Lamson win the 250 and 18 year old Kevin Windham, Baton Rouge, La take the 125 class. Windham found himself being called Jeremy II, as his is a hot prospect. His mount is a Yamaha.
