Porsche Announces 1996 Sales Gain for North America
8 January 1997
Porsche's North American Sales Increase 23 Percent in 1996 Third Highest Porsche 911 Sales Year in Company History RENO, Nev., Jan. 6 -- Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) and Porsche Cars Canada, Ltd. (PCC), today announced their combined 1996 U.S. and Canadian sales of new Porsche automobiles were 23 percent greater than the previous year. PCNA reported total 1996 sales of 7,151 cars, a 23 percent increase over its 1995 figures. PCC recorded 1996 total sales of 372 automobiles, a 20 percent gain over the previous year. The reason for these sales increases is the continued North American market acceptance of the new Porsche 911 line, which comprised virtually all of the new Porsches sold in the U.S. and Canada in 1996. Since their introduction in 1994, sales of the new 911 Carrera and its derivatives have nearly doubled Porsche's North American sales volume. In 1996 alone, more 911s were sold in the U.S. than in any year since 1987. Last year also represented the third highest 911 sales year in PCNA's history.
