Japan's Marubeni Hopes to Sell Chryslers in Korea
12/27/96
Comline reports that Marubeni Corp., a leading Asian general trading companies, hopes to enter Korea's domestic auto import market. Industry sources say the company is negotiating a deal with Chrysler to buy Chrysler sales rights for Seoul and Kyonggi Province.
A Chrysler Korea official admitted that the US company had contacts with Marubeni and said that the Chrysler-Marubeni relationship is very likely. Chrysler established a Korean branch in September 1996, and plans to select a main dealer to cover three provinces in early 1997. Chrysler presently distributes its models in Korea through 23 sales agencies.
