12/23/96
LucasVarity Announces QS-9000, ISO-9001 Certifications for Lucas Body Systems TROY, Mich., Dec. 19 -- Lucas Body Systems, a business of LucasVarity -- the global automotive, diesel engine, aftermarket and aerospace products and systems group -- has received QS-9000 certification for six of its facilities. The six facilities registered together to obtain QS-9000 certification. This multi-site registration to the rigorous QS-9000 standards is among the first in Minnesota and Wisconsin. The facilities that have obtained QS-9000 are located in Rushford, Minn.; Winona, Minn. (two); Ettrick, Wis.; Galesville, Wis. and Troy, Mich. QS-9000, sanctioned by the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG), comprises all ISO-9001 requirements in their entirety, with additional requirements and measurables added from the Big Three automotive manufacturers -- Ford, General Motors and Chrysler. The Big Three are now requiring all component and systems suppliers to obtain QS-9000 certification in order to be eligible to bid on new contracts. During the QS-9000 certification process, Lucas Body Systems was commended by auditors on its Program Introduction Management (PIM) system and its internal audit program. Lucas Body Systems manufactures a wide variety of driver interface and control products that include column switches; heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) controls; instrument switchpacks; security systems; neutral start back up (NSBU) switches; and rain sensors. Lucas Body Systems current customers include Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Toyota, and Nippondenso. Separately, Lucas Body Systems' machine building facility, also located in Winona, Minn., has received its ISO-9001 certification. This plant manufactures assembly and test equipment and is, therefore, not required to obtain QS-9000 certification. Lucas Body Systems is part of LucasVarity's electrical and electronic systems division, a world class supplier of advanced electronics, wiring systems, body systems and electrical systems. LucasVarity designs, manufactures and supplies advanced technology systems, products and services in the world's automotive, diesel engine, aftermarket and aerospace industries.
