Audi, Volkswagen to Open South American Plant

12/19/96

Audi and Volkswagen have announced that they will spend $500 million to open a new manufacturing plant in Parana, Brazil. The new plant, which is slated to begin production in 1999, will build both Audi A3 and Vento car models. It will also produce auto parts for a number of auto parts suppliers.

The plant is expected to have an annual output of 60,000 vehicles, about half its total capacity. Five thousand of those vehicles will be shipped to various South American countries.
