Honda Plans Sporty New Two-Seater

12/17/96

Honda company officials have revealed plans to market a new rear-wheel-drive two-seat sports car. The car will be based on the highly popular SSM prototype displayed at the 1995 Tokyo Motor Show. The engine size has not yet been finalized, but it will probably be around 2000cc.

With this new car, Honda is hoping to take advantage of the current trend toward increased sales for small sports cars -- the same trend that the new European BMW and MG are geared toward. This is Honda's first such effort in over two decades, since it quit production of the S800 in 1974.
