Land Rover Announces Selection of Discovery as Christmas Car

12/13/96

Land Rover Discovery to Star Again as BACC 'Christmas Car'

LANHAM, Md., Dec. 10 -- The 1997 Land Rover Discovery
will again hold center stage as the "Christmas Car" at the
British-American Chamber of Commerce's 38th Annual Christmas Luncheon
December 17 in the Grand Ballroom of New York's Waldorf-Astoria. One
lucky person will win a two-year lease of the sport utility that has
burgeoned in popularity since its U.S. introduction in Spring
1994. Since then, sales of Discovery, Range Rover and Defender powered
from 12,045 in 1994 to 20,026 in 1995; 1996 sales have already
surpassed the '95 total.

The world's most versatile and practical four-by-four, the five-door
Discovery can seat up to seven thanks to two optional inward-facing
occasional-use fold-down seats in the rear. It boasts Land Rover's
trademark permanent four-wheel drive, long-travel coil spring
suspension, four-speed automatic transmission with two-speed transfer
case and center differential. Like all 1997 Discoverys, this year's
Rioja Red micatallic "Christmas Car" has a 182hp, 4.0 litre engine,
lighted driver and passenger vanity mirrors, keyless remote
security/entry system and child-locks among its many features.

Through its thirty-nine exclusive Land Rover Centres, part of the
company's 100-dealer network, LRNA is changing the automotive purchase
experience to one that is full of surprise and delight. Havens for
four-wheel drive activity, with knowledgeable, enthusiastic staffs,
one of the most popular features at most Centres is the on-site test
track that allows customers and prospects to experience the off-road
capabilities of the vehicles.

The Land Rover lifestyle is reflected in the Centre design, where
customers can shop for vehicle accessories, a selection of Land Rover
Gear clothing and accessories, and the very popular Camel Trophy boots
and watches. Owners also have the opportunity to participate in Land
Rover driving schools in the U.S. and two dozen venues worldwide as
well as participating in dealer-sponsored events.

Centres already operating in the greater New York metropolitan area
are located in Southampton, Massapequa and Glen Cove, N.Y., and in
Woodbridge, Paramus, Princeton and Cherry Hill, N.J. Connecticut's
first Centre will open later this month in Darien. Information on all
Land Rover products and dealer locations can be obtained by calling
1-800-FINE-4WD or through the Web at http://www.LandRover.com.

Land Rover North America is a member of the Rover Group Ltd.,
