12/10/96
Xinhua reports that GM Executive Donald Sullivan met with Philippine President Fidel Ramos and announced that GM would invest in a number of projects in the country to complement its manufacturing operations in Thailand.
Ramos announced that Philippine Trade and Industry Secretary Cesar Bautista would initiate a joint feasibility study with GM. Bautista said GM will determine specific projects based on the results of the study and expressed his hope that GM might return a decision next month. Philippine trade officials have been wooing GM in the hopes that the automaker will construct a 1 billion dollar regional manufacturing base for GM vehicles and spare parts in the country.
