GM Announces November Sales

General Motors Vehicle Sales - November 1996
WARREN, Mich., Dec. 3 -- General Motors
dealers in the United States sold 336,815 passenger cars and trucks in
November 1996, down 11.9 percent versus November 1995. Passenger car
sales in the month decreased 22.5 percent, while sales of light duty
trucks increased 4.2 percent. Sales of GM brands calendar year-to-date
are down 1.0 percent from 1995.

Sales Analysis
* Sales of fullsize pickups and utilities, Lumina/Monte Carlo,
Cavalier and Deville were off due to CAW & UAW strikes
* Run-outs of old car models & ramp-ups of new models are limiting
sales
* New model ramp-ups ahead of schedule
* GM less aggressive in '97 car incentives than Ford and Chrysler
Car Highlights
* GM car sales down 23% from 1995
* Malibu selected as Motor Trend Car of the Year (3rd consecutive year
a Chevrolet vehicle has been named)
* Catera launched - 513 units sold
* GM's redesigned cars are market successes -- Park Avenue up 17%,
Grand Prix up 46%, Saturn SC up 12%
* Saab sales up 37% with 900 setting a November record
Truck Highlights
* GM truck sales up 4% from 1995
* GM utility sales continue to boom -- up 26% overall -- Chevrolet
Suburban, Tahoe, Bravada, Safari and GMC Suburban set November records
