Mitsubishi Motors' Total Car Sales Up 15 Percent Domestically Built
Products Lead The Way Showing 51 Percent Increase

CYPRESS, Calif., Dec. 3 -- Encouraged by strong sales of
its recently launched 1997 products, Mitsubishi Motor Sales of
America, Inc. (MMSA) anticipates even stronger sales ahead as the last
two of its completely new models -- the Diamante luxury sedan and
Montero Sport SUV -- begin to enter dealerships during the next few
weeks. Passenger car sales for the month were ahead 15 percent
compared with the same period last year and monthly sales of the
company's domestically built Eclipse and Galant models increased by 51
percent.

"Our strategy of continuing to increase sales of our U.S.-built
products is paying off," said Kevin Ormes, group vice president of
sales and marketing.  "Individually, our domestically built models
continue to be our strongest sellers and even now, during the start of
the winter months, the new Eclipse Spyder convertible continues to
keep its monthly sales above the 1,000 unit mark."

According to Ormes, both ends of the price spectrum have also held
their own -- with Mirage 2-door Coupe reaching nearly 1,400 units for
the month and Montero luxury sport utility sales nearing 1,300
units. Galant sales reached 4,694 units, while total Eclipse sales
neared 4,800 units.

"We're excited about our continued sales momentum and are anxious for
our two newest products to make their arrival," said Ormes. The
all-new Australian-built Diamante luxury sedan will be in showrooms
beginning this month, while the Montero Sport, Mitsubishi Motors'
newest entry into the sport utility market, will arrive in January.

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, Tokyo, and markets a full line of
subcompacts, mid-size sedans, sports coupes, grand touring sports
cars, luxury performance sedans and sport utility vehicles.
