Vector Super Car Bites The Dust . . . Again, Again, Again

12/04/96

It looks as if the curtain has finally rung down on the production of the 200mph Vector super car--designed to run with Ferrari, McLaren F-1, and Lambos--as the doors were closed last week at its Jacksonville, Fla plant. Started in the 1970s by aerospace engineer, Jerry Weigart, the company's executives seemed to spend more time hawking stock shares at auto shows than they did building a car. The few that were built turned out to be complete dogs . . . even unsafe to drive. Weigart had a run in with his execs that resulted in his barricading himself in his Long Beach, California plant. Along came the V'Power company who rescued Lamborghini and they put some money in Vector, plus the 500 hp Lambo V12 motor, but the Vector guys couldn't get it right, and now need $5 million to continue. It's all over.
