Chrysler Posts Record November Sales
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Dec. 2 -- Led by new highs for the
Dodge and Jeep(R) brands, Chrysler Corporation set a
November record for sales and posted its 13th consecutive month with a
year-over-year sales increase.
Chrysler's U.S. sales totaled 179,628 vehicles in November, an
increase of 1 percent over last year. With sales of 177,073, November
1995 held the previous record for the month.
"Our new 1997 lineup continues to generate healthy traffic at our
dealerships," said James P. Holden, Executive Vice President - Sales
and Marketing. "We're especially pleased by our retail numbers -- they
set a November record along with Dodge, Jeep(R) and the company as a
whole."
The Dodge Division set its 10th monthly record since the year began,
with sales of 95,022. That compares with 94,935 in November 1995, the
previous record. Sales of Jeep(R) vehicles totaled 42,835 in November;
the previous record for the month was 38,353 in 1994.
Chrysler truck sales, including minivans and Jeep(R) vehicles, totaled
a record 127,527 in November, 7 percent ahead of a year ago, when
sales were 118,821. Car sales were down 9 percent at 52,101, compared
with 57,408 a year ago.
Chrysler sales for the calendar year through the end of November were
2,271,022 vehicles -- an increase of 14 percent from a year ago, when
year-to-date sales totaled 1,986,540.
Chrysler's sales this year have shattered the company's full-year
record in less than 11 months. That 1988 record -- 2,208,057 vehicles
-- fell November 22 when 1996 sales reached 2,214,289.
