Mitsubishi Electric to Make Intelligent Power Module for Electric Cars
12/02/96
Comline reports that Mitsubishi Electric will produce its PM450CSB060 intelligent power module (IPM) for electric cars on a commercial basis. IPM technology which has been used in industrial converters can be adopted to constitute the entire motor drive gear on an electric car. Mitsubishi claims that it is possible to use the IPM for a three-phase motor (roughly 50-kilowatt) driven by a direct current battery of 200 to 400 volts. The company will start targeting automobile and car parts manufacturers with sample shipments in December, and has planned on a monthly production quantity of 300 to 500 units.
