GM Announces New Hire in Marketing and Advertising for North American Operations

General Motors Establishes New Position/ Director of Advertising Resources Management DETROIT, Nov. 26 -- Judy Hu will join General Motors' North American Operations (NAO) Marketing and Advertising Staff as director of advertising resources management, a new position, effective December 1, 1996. Hu, previously with D'Arcy, Masius, Benton & Bowles, Bloomfield Hills, will serve as a creative consultant to the NAO Marketing and Advertising function and GM's seven marketing divisions. Hu began her advertising career at DMB&B, New York in 1982, managing Procter & Gamble and General Foods brands including Crest Toothpaste, Ivory Shampoo/Conditioner, and Brim Coffee. From 1987 to 1990, she served in senior management positions at Leo Burnett, Hong Kong, guiding such powerful brands as United Airlines, Kellogg, Dairy Farm Foods and Glad-Lock bags. Through these assignments she gained significant experience building brands on a global basis. In her new capacity, Hu will report directly to Phil Guarascio, GM vice president and general manager of marketing and advertising for NAO. "Judy's wide-ranging experience building and strategically positioning brands will add considerable strength to GM's growing advertising intelligence," commented Guarascio. "Her ability to create a world-class strategic advertising development process will be a significant asset to our NAO organization." Hu will be responsible for providing advertising counsel to GM's marketing divisions in three functional areas: strategic development, creative development and advertising research. She will enhance the organization's skill level in advertising by benchmarking superior practices, managing the exchange of learning and information across divisions, and developing innovative processes that drive more effective advertising. A cum laude graduate of Harvard College, Hu received her Master's Degree in Public and Private Management (MMPM) from the Yale School of Management.
