Ford Announces Safety Recalls on 1997 Econoline and Mercury Villager Models

11/29/96

Ford Announced Vehicle Campaigns

DETROIT, Nov. 26 -- Ford Motor Company has
announced the following safety recalls:

* Approximately 5,300 1997 Econoline vans equipped with a 4.2L
engine. The battery cable harnesses installed in these vehicles may
contact and be damaged by the right engine mount. This may allow the
cable to develop a short to ground. A short could result in
overheating of the wiring, and potentially ignite surrounding
components. Ford is unaware of any accidents or injuries related to
this concern.

* Approximately 1,300 1997 Mercury Villagers. Rubber hoses connected
to the fuel tank may have been heat damaged by the supplier and may
develop cracks or splits that potentially could result in fuel
leaks. Ford is unaware of any accidents or injuries related to this
concern.

Owners of affected vehicles are being contacted by first-class mail
and requested to return their vehicles to their dealer for inspection
and appropriate repair procedures, free of charge.
