Truckers Strike in France Causes Supply Shortage at Renault Plant
11/27/96
Reuters has reported that French carmaker Renault SA closed its plant in Douai in the North of France because of a supply shortage. Renault blamed the shutdown on a trucker's strike that has entered its second week. The closed Renault plant makes the Megane.
State mediated negotiations between employers and unions in France's transport sector broke down Monday morning. PSA Peugeot Citroen has not commented on whether or not the strike has affected its production. Another vehicle maker--MCA--has said that it halted production at its Mabeuge plant, which makes utilitarian vehicles.
