Nissan Imports Replacement Bumpers from Malaysia

11/27/96

Kyodo reports that Nissan Motor Co. announced that it has begun to import replacement bumpers for its vehicles from its vehicle distributor in Malaysia. The Malaysian Tan Chong and Sons Motor Co. will supply bumpers for the Vanette model to Japanese dealers, Nissan said.

Nissan stopped producing the Vanette in Japan in Spring, 1994, but demand for Vanette replacement bumpers runs steady at about 400 per month. Importing the bumpers from Malaysia will satisfy Malaysian localization regulations and reduce Nissan's production costs.

Tan Chong Motor Assemblies, puts Vanettes together for Nissan in Malaysia. The firm currently assembles 1,000 units per month.
