11/27/96
Chrysler's U.S. Sales Set Calendar Year Record, Surpassing 1988 Mark in Less Than 11 Months AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Nov. 25 -- With more than five weeks left in the calendar year, Chrysler Corporation and its dealers have sold more new vehicles in the United States in 1996 than in any full year in the company's history. "This record represents more than just our best year. We see it as a strong sign of what Chrysler is really capable of in the years ahead," said James P. Holden, Executive Vice President - Sales and Marketing. Chrysler's U.S. sales from January 1, 1996, through November 22 totaled 2,214,289 vehicles. The previous record -- which took 12 months to achieve -- was 2,208,057 in 1988. Through the end of October, Chrysler's U.S. sales were 15 percent ahead of a year ago. In 1996, Chrysler has set six monthly sales records and three quarterly records. May had the highest total of any month in Chrysler history.
