United Technologies Announces Auto Engineering/Technology Center in Philippines

UT Automotive to Build New Engineering/Technology Center in the
Philippines

CEBU, Philippines, Nov. 22 -- United Technologies
Automotive (UT Automotive) today announced plans to invest $5 million
in the construction of a 60,000-square-foot engineering and technology
center in Cebu.

The new Philippine Engineering and Technology Center will replace a
13,000-square-foot facility currently located in a UT Automotive
manufacturing facility in Cebu.

United Technologies expects the number of employees at the center will
grow from 93 to more than 250 over the next five years. The new
facility will accommodate the anticipated growth in personnel, as well
as expand the laboratory and development areas.

"Although the Philippine Engineering and Technology Center has seen
steady growth over the past four years, we have only scratched the
surface of its potential," UT Automotive President Norm Bodine
said. "The use of the Philippine Engineering and Technology Center by
all UT Automotive business units provides a tremendous opportunity for
business synergies through the sharing of information, pooling of
resources on common projects, and development of systems proposals for
new business ventures.

"The Philippine Engineering and Technology Center will truly be a
resource shared by all of UT Automotive."

UT Automotive first established a Philippine Engineering and
Technology Center in 1992 to provide engineering support to the Cebu
manufacturing facilities, to establish design and quoting capability
in Cebu, and to enhance UT Automotive's business presence in
Asia-Pacific.

The center, initially supported UT Automotive's Wiring Systems
business unit, has been providing support to the company's other
business units since 1995.

Operations at the Philippine Engineering Center include computer-aided
design (CAD), testing, modeling, warranty and reliability,
parts-submission warrant (PSW) dimensional layout, and benchmarking.

The center supports all quoting of new business proposals for
Asian/Pacific customers, provides product engineering liaison to
manufacturing operations, and conducts
value-engineering/value-analysis (VE/VA) activities to ensure
competitive quotes.

UT Automotive, with headquarters in Dearborn, Mich., is a major
supplier of electrical and interior trim systems and components to car
and light truck manufacturers.

UT Automotive is a unit of Hartford, Conn.-based United Technologies
Corp. , which provides a broad range of high-technology
products and services to the aerospace, building systems and
automotive industries.
