Chrysler Palm Springs Vintage G.P. Features Big Concours

11/25/96

According to organizer Paul Lighthill, the Union Bank-sponsored Concours d'Elegance being staged in conjunction with the Chrysler Vintage Grand Prix in Palm Springs, California is going to rival other promonent west coast vintage shows such as Pebble Beach, Santa Barbara, and Newport Beach in scope and elegance. On the lawn at Tahquist Golf Club, Sunday, November 24 are 15 Panteras, 15 Ferraris of every flavor, plus Mercedes, Pegaso, Maserati, Abarth, Fiat and Alfa Romeo . . . obviously a nod is going to exotic Italian sports cars. There will be class winners, but also winning will be the children of Tiempo De Los Ninos, the charitable end of the desert Hospital foundation. Lighthill, who will race the fastest VW bug west of the Mississippi in the weekend's vintage races, says that he and his co-director wife Anja have initiated a new class for the concours: cars driven regularly by their owners.
